GM and Socialism

News is breaking that GM is recalling over a million vehicles because of faulty ignition switches that cause the airbags to fail. 12 people have died as a result. The problem might go back as far as 2004! So why did the government not investigate sooner? Maybe it would have, but the government eventually became part owner of GM and maybe it did not want anything to hurt profits? When governments become owners of companies in the private sector you have a major conflict of interest. The primary role of government is to protect it's citizens. When the government becomes an owner, it can't look out for the interests of the citizens and the company at the same time. That's what's wrong with socialism (and eventually communism). In a truly capitalist system the role of the government is to keep all the players honest and law abiding. If it is also a player, it can't (or won't) do that. That's why socialism is dangerous.

What do you think?
