The Digital age

Historically we have gone from the hunter/gather age to the agricultural age. Then we went from the agricultural age to the industrial age. Now we are going from the industrial age to the digital age. This age used to be called the information age or the computer or technology age or the knowledge age, but using the title the digital age fits better in my thinking. This age is not necessarily an information age, though information is a huge chunk of what is happening. This age is not all about computers or technology, though it is a big part of it. This age is not necessarily about knowledge, though that is a big part of it. But everything that is driving this transformation is digital. This was not envisioned a few decades ago. I don't think anyone imagined that the music industry would be digitized and transformed. Now one expected video to be such a huge portion of the internet, but it is. No one guessed that books would become digitized and quickly become the dominant means of publication. There many other examples, but I think I made the point. This age is all about making things digital. What will the future be like? It will be digital.

What do you think?
