Creativity - Planning

Once you make a choice as to what you want to create, the next step is to plan. Many creators do this in their head, so it seems as if it is not necessary, but it is a vital step in creating and creativity. The purpose of planning is to create a "map" of how to get to the finished product. I think the movie industry is the best example of how this works. Once a concept for a movie is developed, a script is written, but before shooting begins, many directors create a storyboard. In a storyboard the whole movie is outlined in small pictures. Some directors use a storyboard that has only the basic information they need and then figure out many of the details once shooting begins. Some directors create a very detailed storyboard that includes as much information as possible. The amount of detail is not the point. What is important is that a plan is developed to guide the production. So if you have something you want to create, sit down and create a plan. When you finally get to producing your creation you will have a good idea of what you need to do.

What do you think?
