World News and Events - Russia

Russia is now in undisputed and complete control of Crimea. What was the cost? A few minor sanctions and being kicked out of the G8 club. Ouch, that hurt (and as my students like to say - not). Is the West truly so weak that they can't muster a strong response to aggression? Or is it that the finances of the west are in such a mess that they can't afford to make a response? I think that might be closer to the truth. Though Russia is not what it was during the cold war militarily, it is in a much better financial position the west is. The west is awash in debt. Is Russia? The west is dependent on oil and gas from external sources. Is Russia? Can the west afford a war? Can Russia? Now that is interesting.

What do you think?
