Creativity - Brainstorming

Is brainstorming an effective way to generate usable ideas? I am not a fan of brainstorming. I don't enjoy the group interaction. I find it a waste of time. Well, it turns out that the research shows that brainstorming is not very effective. Is there an alternative? Yes there is. Instead of doing a brainstorming session do this instead. First, write the problem or goal on a big piece of paper and place it up so all participants can see it. Then, hand paper out to everyone and have them work on their own (and anonymously) to find solutions with the resources at hand. When everyone is finished, have someone list all the ideas on the big piece of paper and discuss them. This process has been shown to produce much better results than brainstorming.

What do you think?
