News - Daily Summary

Russia is claiming to pull troops back from the Ukrainian border and is encouraging separatists not to vote for secession yet. Is this a good or bad thing? Did Russia just blink? Or is this just a PR move to make the sanctions go away? In Venezuela water rationing is imposed as a result of a drought and electricity is rationed as a result of gas being cut off by Colombia. The protests are ongoing. In Syria, rebels pull out of Homs as the government continues to slowly gain ground in the 3 year civil war. Iran admits it has troops in Syria with another 130,000 men ready to deploy if necessary. I think the rebels have lost. So much for supporting democracy. There were no major developments from North Korea. Vietnam and China are at odds over a Chinese oil rig that has been deployed in disputed waters. Japan and China are still at odds over a group of islands in the East China Sea. This is what happens when rogue nations feel that the U.S. is weak.

In the U.S. stocks were mixed today as the DOW and S&P were up, but the NASDAQ was down. It looks like tech stocks took a hit today. Gold and silver were down and oil was up. There was no other major developments in the U.S. except for the usual murder, mayhem, corruption, and trivialities. Things have been relatively quiet lately.

It was another day in the calm before the storm.

What do you think?
