Observations - High End PC Market

Sony has announced that they will have a worse loss than predicted. They are projecting a loss of $1.25 billion for this fiscal year. One of the reasons for their loss is that their PC business has failed miserably. Sony positioned itself as a high end producer of laptops, and that led to fewer and fewer sales. This is making some wonder if the high end laptop business is over. Apple this week announced a new Macbook Air that is $100 less than last years model. Could this also be a reaction to the high end markets rapid decline? In all this, Chromebook sales continue to grow and more and more models are being produced. Maybe we are at an inflection point in the PC market? Maybe this is the point where the low end becomes the main market and the high end becomes a specialty niche?

What do you think?
