Observations - Grades

I have been a teacher for just about 20 years and an adjunct professor for about 5 years. Do grades matter? They matter only if you want to get into a specific (and picky) university. After that, having a degree and being able to do the work is what matters. So much emphasis is placed on grades that they have become the end all and be all of education. I think that emphasis has been misplaced. What matters is if you can do the work. I have a BA, and MS, and most of a Ph.D. and no one cared about my GPA when I applied for and got a job. The main point here is that you need to pass the class and make sure you can do the work. The rest is not that big of a deal. By the way, if you are looking to get into a specific University, nail those grades and go find out what it takes to get in. It takes more than grades today.

What do you think?
