Is technology making us dumber or smarter? I think that's the wrong discussion to have. Technology is not making us dumber nor is it making us smarter, it is just changing the skills and knowledge we need to function successfully in society. 100 years ago you needed to know how to deal with horses, how to send telegrams, and how to preserve food without refrigeration. These are all skills that you do not need today (though you might choose to have them any way). So people are not becoming dumber, they are just using different skills like how to use Google or Wikipedia (skills that were not even dreamed of 30-40 years ago).
