I am all for giving the military as much money as possible so that they can do all that is asked of them. Sometimes I wonder if they spend our money wisely. For example, a new destroyer was just commissioned by the Navy. It cost $7 billion. Now I am all for cutting edge technology being used by the Navy, but this new destroyer better be awesome. How many "old" destroyers could have been bought for the same price? The crew requirements are about half on the new destroyer compared to the old ones. I am not sure that's a good thing. We could use more openings in the Navy and thus have more people employed. Also, if the old boats were less expensive to build, then we could have built more of them and employed even more people in the process. I hope the new one does well, but I wonder if the old would have been better for the times we live in?
What do you think?
