It is going to be an interesting this coming week. First, we will see how Russia responds to the release of oil from the strategic reserves. Oil is now just under $100. Is that low enough to make Russia quake in it's boot's? I don't think so. Sunday we have the vote in Crimea over splitting with Ukraine and joining Russia. Since most of the population is Russian, the vote will not be a surprise. Also, Russia is massing troops near their border with Ukraine. There are nearly 300 tanks, 200 armoured personnel carriers, 400 pieces of artillery, and 80,000 troops within 200 miles of the capital Ukraine, Kiev. Is Putin bluffing? We will see soon enough. My guess is that Russia is going to invade eastern Ukraine and see what happens. Then they might go all the way and take the rest of Ukraine if the west can't muster a reasonable response. If the west does respond with military force (as the Joint Chiefs have said they can), then we might have a war on our hands. Wow, it is going to be an interesting week!
What do you think?
